Hyperpigmentation is a disorder that is caused due to a variety of factors like sun damage, inflammation of the skin or other skin irritations. There are also some cases, which may be caused due to acne vulgaris. In hyperpigmentation, the skin around the face becomes unusually dark due to increased production of melanin, which is a skin pigment. The condition arises from an increased functioning of melanin producing cells called melanocytes, which occurs when the skin is exposed to the skin for long periods of time. This disorder has symptoms of dark areas of irregular skin, which is present generally around the mouth and the cheekbones. These symptoms gradually develop and intensify over time. There is also another, more serious problem that hyperpigmentation could be possibly connected to. This disorder is sometimes connected to Cushing's syndrome and Type 2 Diabetes in which there is a high degree of pigmentation around the mouth. The excess of darkening is the result of melanin reacting with ultraviolet radiation, as it does naturally, and the subsequent oxidative stress causes it, and the skin to darken.

Sometimes, when you suffer an accident or any incident which leaves a scar on your face, then there are increased chances of suffering from this disorder. The skin, which is affected by the scar often, fails to regenerate completely and regain its original complexion. As a result, the skin discolors into a blackish or dark shade. This is a result of an entire collection of melanocyte cells or high melanocyte activity around the area of a scar to protect it against the ultraviolet radiation of the sun.

The aspect about this disorder that troubles most people is that there is no cure for the same except for laser treatments. Most people do not want to opt for laser treatments because of the restrictive costs involved with laser therapy. However, if not treated properly, this condition may intensify. In the meantime, when you are mulling over the option of going for laser treatment, there is the stopgap option of using Vitamin C bleach methods. However, despite not being a permanent cure, these methods are pretty successful in stopping the gradual process of pigmentation for a period of time. Try out this method by squeezing out the juice from an onion, mixing it with lemon juice and applying it in coats to the entire affected area. Leave this on for at least an hour and then wash it off with cold water. This method generally shows visible results within a month of treatment.
