Evidently, you have had quite a severe case of acne vulgaris or are possibly still suffering from it. You need not worry too much though as acne vulgaris is a condition that happens to almost everyone with the transition from childhood to adulthood; otherwise known as puberty. Of all the problems that acne can cause, the most problematic of them all is the scarring caused by the pimples. This can be very complicated to deal with, especially if the scarring is in the form of deep ridges and depressed scars in the face. Laser therapy, is often suggested for this kind of scarring as it is not easy to treat them with conventional medications.
Unfortunately, it is also one of the most expensive treatments and is not covered by most insurance companies as part of their health policy.
Pimples are the pustules that occur when a case of acne has become too severe. There are ingrown pimples as well that occur below the skin and are technically quite akin to abscesses. These are also the worst form of acne that you can end up with because as the body fights the infection and heals, tissue is lost from the surrounding area and the surface skin then collapses in, causing the scars. Pustules or the more regular raised scars are a result of the abscess coming to the surface. Squeezing these out is the worst thing that you could do so resist the temptation to do so. The best way to deal with pimples is to use topical antibiotics. The reason that acne is connected with infection is because of the blockage of the pores of the skin by bacteria, dead skin cells, and other kind of debris. This pools the skin oils and the bacteria then trigger an infection. The body then sends white blood cells to deal with the infection and seals the area off. This is the reason why the exudates from pimples are white in color.
To arrest the spread of your acne immediately, you must clear the skin of all debris. This is best done with salicylic acid as a face wash, which will dissolve binding skin protein making it easier to wash off. Next, wash your face again with a tea tree oil based wash to disinfect and sterilize the skin of skin bacteria. Finally, to deal with scarring, apply a Tretinoin-based cream for the next few months.
