A mole is more familiar in medical circles as a melanocytic nevus. A nevus is a neoplasm, which is benign abnormal growth of cells. If they were malignant, the neoplasm would be a tumor. Melanocytes are the skin pigment cells of the body. Therefore, a melanocytic nevus is an abnormal growth of melanocyte cells in a region of the body. A close cousin of a mole is a growth called a seborrheic keratosis, which is a neoplasm that is a collection of keratinocyte cells. Their fixture to the skin can distinguish the two, as a mole is usually more entrenched in the skin, while a seborrheic keratosis looks more detached like a mushroom. Neither of these growths is removable from the skin by a home remedy, as you would require the use of a cytotoxic substance to destroy the cells of the neoplasm, and the use of cytotoxic chemicals should not be without medical supervision. Your best bet lies in consulting a cosmetic surgeon who will get rid of the growth using either surgery or other methods.

Cosmetic surgeons use the methods of cryotherapy, laser therapy and electric cauterization to remove these and similar growths. There is also the simpler excision and lancing techniques that are also effective and more cost effective than a laser treatment. Cryotherapy is a technique in which the surgeon will pour liquid nitrogen on the area of skin. This will immediately kill the cells in the area and the mole can just be "flicked" away after that. Your surgeon might also perform some basic surgery under the skin to remove any other neoplasmic tissue. Laser therapy is a bit more direct and works by simply burning off the mole by the action of a high-powered laser. This is one of the most efficient but also most expensive techniques available. However, being a simple procedure that just takes a few hours, it is option worth considering. Electric cauterization uses the very same principle as laser therapy but instead of using a high-powered laser, electricity is used to burn off the mole and the surrounding tissue.

All of these techniques have one inherent problem, which is the development of scar tissue. This is an inevitable product of destroying tissue in the body. Therefore, after you perform the excision surgery, it makes sense to talk to your doctor about the use of Tretinoin-based creams to reduce the appearance of scars.
