Skin blemishes such as pimples and dark spots are a common occurrence on the skin. Pimples develop when the sebaceous glands of the body start to produce sebum or oil in increased quantities. This excess oil accumulates in the skin pores or hair follicles along with dead skin cells and bacteria. The collected debris forms a plug which clogs the skin pores, and the action of the bacteria leads to an inflammation. The body's natural response to an inflammation is to send white blood cells to the affected area. This leads to the formation of pus, which is a mixture of white blood cells and skin cells. Pimples generally occur during hormonal changes, as the increased production of hormones causes the oil glands to produce more oil. Stress can also lead to the development of pimples. Unhealthy eating habits such as consuming too much oil and greasy food can also contribute to pimples. Dark spots appear on the skin as a result of hyper pigmentation. This can take place either due to increased exposure to the sun or due to hormonal fluctuations.
Pimples can be treated using simple home remedies. A quick and easy remedy that many believe to be effective is to apply a bit of toothpaste to the pimple. This will cause the pimple to dry up. A tablespoon each of groundnut oil and lemon juice helps to prevent pimples from developing. Honey for skin is an excellent remedy for any skin problem, as it helps to get rid of bacteria on the skin. It also helps greatly in keeping the skin moisturized and glowing. Applying raw papaya juice is also a good treatment for pimples. Another popular remedy for restricting the occurrence of pimples is to roast a few cloves and grind them. Then add a bit of yogurt to the powder and make a paste. Apply this to the pimples and allow it to dry. In addition to these remedies, it is also advisable to drink plenty of water so that the toxins in the body are easily flushed out.
The dark spots may be treated by applying a slice of a lemon. This will bleach the skin and lighten the marks. Applying a paste of oatmeal, honey and a few drops of lime juice will also have a lightening effect. Gram flour paste is an age-old remedy for reducing skin darkening. Applying this on a regular basis is sure to bring positive results in a short span of time.
