Hair loss is a tricky matter to contend with, especially if you are a man. The mechanisms of hair loss in men and women are distinctly different with the visibly dominant sufferers being men. The reasons for hair loss in women are varied and hormonal changes are just one of the causative factors. In men, the dominant cause is hormonal and is caused due to an excess of the sex hormone dihydrotestosterone in the system. Before embarking on a remedial misadventure, you need to make a few checks on the falling hair. Run your hand through your scalp all the way to the ends of the hair. A few strands would come out. At one end of the hair you will either see a dark bulbous formation or a white end. If you see a white end then you are truly suffering from a case of male or female pattern balding.
Hair goes through phases of growth namely: anagen, catagen and telogenic phases. The anagen is the growth phase of a hair. This phase usually lasts a few years when each individual hair follicle is continuously growing. A trigger then shifts the hair into the catagen phase where the hair stops growing and this culminates in the telogen phase where the hair is fully kertinised and a dark bulb forms at the root. At this last stage, the hair then falls off naturally and from the cycle begins all over again with a new hair strand growing from where the old fell off. A white end on the hair indicates that your hair came right out along with the sebaceous gland. This is not normal and indicates weakness or the start of pattern balding.
If you are a man, then you need to start using minoxidil or ketoconazole shampoo. Both of these have the ability to arrest androgenic alopecia or male pattern baldness and sometimes even rejuvenate dead hair follicles. Almond and castor oil contain essential fatty acids and these help lubricate and protect the hair. These are good for the hair but are of no use in preventing hair loss. Increase your dietary intake of vitamin E through leafy greens and seafood, biotin from high dairy intake or supplements, and protein from soy. From now on, dry your hair by pressing a towel on your head instead of rubbing. Stay away from the hair dryer and use a conditioner that is a keratin surfactant.
