You are probably looking for a way to stimulate hair growth. It is important to understand a few facts about hair loss first. The first thing to understand is the reason for the loss of hair. Men tend to have this problem sometimes as early as the age twenty, but sometimes as late as forty and fifty. This type of hair loss is called androgenic alopecia and is caused not because of a disease, but as a natural consequence of testosterone synthesis into a more powerful sex hormone called dihydrotestosterone. Other types of hair loss that is unnatural could be because of factors like malnourishment or undernourishment and even mechanical injury to the hair. The remedies for rectifying this problem require one to increase nourishment and wait for the hair follicle cycle to go into the growth phase again. In the case of androgenic alopecia, the remedy requires hormonal intervention. Castor oil does not fit into the equation of remedies that are used to treat hair loss. Castor oil's main benefit to the hair comes from the high concentration of essential oils. This is useful for maintaining the lustrous sheen of hair but does not help in stimulating hair growth.

There are a few treatments that you can use to increase follicular distribution on the scalp. For any hair that you might have already lost, you needn't worry too much. This is because hair growth and hair loss are a natural cycle of hair growth in something called the anagen-catagen-telogen phases. The most important part of regrowing hair is to use the correct products and patience. The phases of hair growth are only visible from a yearly perspective.

The three most useful products that can stimulate the growth of hair follicles are finasteride, minoxidil, and ketoconazole. Finasteride is a drug that blocks the synthesis of testosterone to dihydrotestosterone; thereby, stopping hair loss due to the excessive amounts of this hormone near follicles. Minoxidil is a common treatment that is used for hair loss treatment and is an over the counter product. It must however be noted that once you stop using this product, you will end up losing hair that you have gained and possible what you have as well; therefore, its use is lifelong. Ketoconazole is an antidandruff shampoo that was found to increases hair follicle growth as well. Though this is generally not sold as an alopecia treatment, it's incidental benefits can still be reaped.
