Your problem is not an isolated case. According to the Office of Cosmetics and Colors at the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), chemically straightened or relaxed hair account for a large number of consumer complaints. These complaints range from serious hair breakage and loss to chemical burns on the scalp. The reason for such risks is that chemical hair strengthening procedures rely on a process called chemical rebonding. Here, certain chemicals are used to breakdown the natural genetic structure of the hair, destroying the traditional curl or wave patterns. Then a neutralizer is applied to restructure the hair in a straight pattern. As you can imagine, the hair becomes fragile and has to be handled cautiously. A simple reflex like tying your hair can be disastrous. In your particular case, it would appear that the chemicals did not reach down to the roots. Another cause could be time; rebounded hair typically needs touch-up every six months or so, since the hair growing at the roots will retain your natural genetic shape.
There is no straightforward solution for your problem. If you wish, you can purchase a hair iron and use that to straighten your hair at home. Regular heat styling can be effectively performed by using protective products and keeping the hair conditioned and healthy. If you no longer want the straightened look, you simply have to wait for your hair to grow out in their natural texture. You can opt for a short haircut to minimize the amount of straightened hair. Make sure you keep your hair well moisturized and use gentle cleansing products to avoid any further damage. Of course, many women prefer to try natural remedies for straightening out hair without the harmful side effects of chemicals. However, the efficiency of such treatments is largely unproven.
One method for hair that is not extremely curly is to apply castor oil. Run a wide tooth comb from root to tip while using a blow dryer on a medium setting. Slowly continue until all the hair is done and gently dry with a damp towel. For more stubborn hair, you can try using a combination of one cup of fresh coconut milk and half a cup of lime juice. Leave the mix overnight in the refrigerator. You'll notice that it has turned into a cream. Apply this cream deep into your hair and cover with a wet towel for around 30 minutes before washing. If you repeat this three times a week, you should see some effect in two weeks.
