It is often challenging to take care of dry hair, especially since our hair is constantly exposed to the atmosphere and pollution. In addition, many of the commercial hair care products contain chemicals that can further dry and damage your hair. However, you too can manage to get healthy, shiny hair with some basic lifestyle changes and natural remedies.

You have mentioned that you tried coconut oil and did not see the expected results. One reason could be the application method; it is recommended that you gently warm the oil before applying it to the hair. You should then cover your head with a wet towel for around half an hour before washing away the oil. Some people are not comfortable with the odor of coconut oil. In that case, olive oil is an excellent substitute. When it comes to shampooing your hair, you can create your own natural shampoos that are economical, chemical-free, and have ingredients beneficial for dry hair. One popular formula suggests adding 2-3 drops of tea tree oil to a tablespoon of mild baby shampoo. This natural oil has soothing properties that will benefit the scalp, helping you treat dry hair from the roots. Once a week, you can apply a natural hair care pack to provide further nutrition to your hair. Mix one teaspoon of extra virgin olive oil with an egg and apply for ten minutes before shampooing. Many people also prefer rinsing their hair with a tablespoon of vinegar since it is a natural conditioner. You can make a natural conditioner for dry hair by mixing one part of vinegar with six parts of water. Hair products containing aloe vera are also a great option as this plant helps to moisturize dry hair and add a healthy sheen.

In addition to natural hair care products, some basic lifestyle changes and hair care tips can further protect dry hair. Avoid using hair dryers since the heat can make the hair brittle and weak. Always pat your hair dry with a towel without vigorous movement. Never brush the hair while it is wet and use gentle, easy strokes. Try a weekly head massage to increase the blood flow to the scalp and encourage the scalp's oil glands secrete natural moisturizers. Make sure you drink plenty of water to maintain ideal levels of fluids in your system. Finally, make sure you enjoy a healthy diet and get plenty of exercise, since your internal health is often reflected in your hair!
