SPF 15 sunscreen lotion for pigmented spots

I am 37 years old with dark pigmentation on upper lips, cheeks and nose. I think so because of birth control pills. I have a daughter 10 years old. The pigmentation did not occur at the time of pregnancy.

In the case of pigmentation patches like the ones you have described, there is usually a clear reason or indication as to why they are occurring. Usually, it could be a reaction of the skin to some sort of new application that you may have tried out. This could be a cream, soap, lotion, or just about anything. Another very real possibility is that you may have inherited this problem. A lot of people tend to get the problem of hyper pigmentation after they cross their 30s, as it runs in the family. In particular, this tends to pass on with the women of the family. You may want to check and see if this is the case in your family tree. If it is, there is really very little you can do about it. But if you think that your hyper pigmentation may be caused due to things such as some new product you have used, then you should stop using that product as soon as you can. If you are of the opinion that these marks have occurred due to your taking a new type of contraceptive pill, you should consult your doctor, preferably the one who has prescribed these pills to you. Most of the time, there are other equally effective alternatives easily available and all it takes is for you to ask the doctor for them. It is possible that while this pill may not have suited you, another one will. Once you change your medication, allow for a few weeks to notice a marked difference. Please remember that these changes will not occur overnight.

On a very general level, you can take a few steps to lighten the darkness of your patches. Regularly apply sunscreen lotion with a sun protection factor of 15, minimum. This should be very useful in not allowing your skin to darken further. This alone will make a positive difference in your appearance. Make a mixture of a teaspoon of fresh yogurt and a few drops of lime juice. Apply, leave for about 20 minutes and wash. This will work over a period of time, so do not expect instant results. You can also make a paste with fresh cream and a few strands of saffron, soak this overnight and apply. This will be useful in reducing darkness and discoloration of the skin. All you have to bear in mind is that these measures will take a month to show effect.
