Dry Flaky Skin Dry flaky skin can be a result of various factors. It could be that you have had some skin problem such as extreme sunburn or sun poisoning, which has caused your skin to become excessively dry. This could result in skin flaking off the sun burnt areas after a day or two. This is the normal procedure an extremely harsh tan follows. Another reason for flaky skin could be that your skin has become dry due to neglect and lack of moisturization. This will make your skin become not only dry and flaky, it will also cause some element of discoloration. The reason for this is that when skin becomes too dry and flaky, the topmost layer of skin eventually burns up and peels off, thus revealing fresh skin beneath which is of a different color altogether.
Sometimes, flaking skin is also a result of skin that has lost its top layer of oiliness and has a moist layer beneath. This can cause the top part of the skin to peel off because it is inconsistent in nature with the bottom part of the skin. This will have to be taken care of by sloughing off the top layer of skin, which is basically now dead, and then following a proper routine of care and maintenance in order to bring back the natural beauty and stop flaking of the skin.
