Your question does not specify what exactly you are using the pumice stone for. If applied appropriately, then the pumice stone can have several positive uses. However, if not used as it should be used, then it can permanently damage your skin and cause it great harm. Generally, pumice stones are used to scrub out excessively hard and dry parts of the skin that have become this way due to long term neglect and build up of dead skin. So they are usually used on areas such as the outside of the elbow joint, the soles of the feet, the knees and in some cases, the hands even. If you have tough skin on any part of the body, you can use a pumice stone easily to clear it out. Use it about twice, or three times a week, and be gentle. Remember that scrubbing hard will probably cut your skin more than clean it. This will cause injury and will only add to the layer of thickened skin. Scrub in gentle circular motions after applying soap. The soap will help to gentle the harsher effects of this scrubbing. Keep in mind that skin which is gradually removed will not come back to plague you. Try not to rub your skin for more than five minutes at any time. The best time to use a pumice stone is after a bath. The skin softens considerably after being exposed to water for a while and is easier to remove.
It is totally inadvisable to use a steel utensil cleaner on your skin. Under no circumstances should you indulge in this, as it can cause untold damage to your skin. Steel wool is extremely harsh and is not formulated for use on anything except metals. It is better you work a little at taking regular care of your feet so that you do not have to contend with this problem on a long term basis. Wash your feet with comfortably hot water each night before bed time and pat dry. Apply a basic cream to keep your skin well nourished so that it stops becoming dry on a regular basis. Even petroleum jelly will work well for you. Try to wear cotton socks before going to bed, as this will allow air to circulate and will help your skin to "breathe". You will notice that most of the cracks and dry spots on your feet will vanish within a week or so.
