Scars may result from a variety of causes, such as injuries, cuts, wounds, burns and surgeries. There are many simple home remedies that you may find useful in reducing the prominence of scars, though their efficacy would depend on how old and extensive the scar is. You may soak two tablespoons of black gram in a cup of water and grind them to a fine paste the next morning. Add an equal portion of sandalwood powder to this and apply this mixture on the scar. Leave it on for half an hour before washing it away with cold water. Daily application of this paste gradually makes scars fade away. A paste made by adding some rose water to two tablespoons of sandalwood powder also helps remove scars when regularly used over a period of time. Dabbing the scars with cucumber juice for 5-10 minutes every day and letting it dry in the air naturally also helps makes scars look less prominent. Similarly, rubbing the area with a slice of a freshly cut tomato also fades scars away. Both cucumber and tomato juice have the natural property of tightening the skin and giving it a smoother, more even texture. Gently massaging the affected area with lemon juice or a slice of lemon also helps make the skin look lighter and more even in complexion and thereby decreases the prominence of scars. Vitamin K is known to help heal wounds and make scars disappear naturally. Thus, extracting the juice of vegetables like spinach, green cabbage and broccoli and applying this topically on wounds or lesions helps prevent scarring. Consuming these juices also helps heal wounds naturally without leaving behind scars. Daily application of almond and grape seed oil mixed together in equal proportions is also helpful in treating scars. Crushing a few mint leaves by pressing them within the folds of a piece of muslin cloth and gently rubbing the scares area with this cloth is also useful in making scars fade away. Another popular remedy for scars is to apply the juice of aloe vera leaves on the affected area on a regular basis. This lightens the tone of the skin and gives it a firmer, unblemished look. Rubbing the area with a few cloves of garlic for 5 minutes every day also helps remove scars. Smearing the scars with some tea tree oil before going to bed also helps solve the problem.
