Ideally, you should not be doing any hair removal treatments on a child that is just four years old. This is because a child's immune system is not ready to deal with some of the after effects of depilation. If you consider some of the hair removal techniques that are available, you would notice that they all involve some level of pain or skin damage. If this is the case, then there is a very small chance that your child would enjoy the experience. Besides this, there is a very good chance that small cuts on the skin could cause infection to the child. As mentioned before, your child's immune system is not fully developed and any infection could cause major problems.
There is some merit in trying out a hair removal cream as this is probably the only method of hair removal that will possibly cause the least amount of pain. These kinds of creams contain chemicals that burn the hair off from the roots. The only problem with using these kinds of creams lies in any allergic reaction to the chemicals in the cream. You can check for this by applying a small amount of the cream to your child's elbow and watch for any rash or burning sensations. Another technique that is painless and permanent, but expensive, requires you to go to a cosmetic surgeon for a laser hair removal. This technique uses a moderately powered laser to burn off hair from its roots. This can sometimes cause some skin discoloration. However, the skin will heal and the burn mark will fade away in time.
If none of these methods are suitable, then the last alternative is to use some herbal remedies. Turmeric and chick pea flour are sometimes used for this purpose. This is usually effective for the fine hair that appears on the arms and the neck and you can also try it out instead of waxing for your upper lip. Mix some turmeric powder and chick pea flour in a bowl of water until it forms a paste. Apply this on the areas of the skin that require hair removal and leave it on for an hour. The theory is that this should get rid of the hair over a period of time. Turmeric can be slightly irritating for a child's skin so you might want to wash off her arms and neck in some ice cold water afterwards to reduce the irritation.
