Hyperpigmentation is a very common skin condition, wherein certain areas of skin turn into a darker color. This condition is a harmless one, and is brought about when there is an excess of the brown pigment, known as melanin, in one's skin. Hyperpigmentation could basically affect anyone. Liver spots commonly referred to as age spots are an example of this condition. They normally form on account of damage caused to one's skin, from the sun. There are 2 other types of spots which are quite similar to these age spots, they however cover a larger area of the skin. These types of spots or marks are known as chloasma spots or melasma spots, and are caused due to hormonal changes, which bring about an increase in the production of melanin. These are generally found on the face and hands; however, any part of the body which is exposed to the sun can be affected. Hyperpigmentation however, may not be the only cause for skin discoloration. Acne too could cause the darkening of skin as well as skin injuries or some surgery.

The black marks on your face could be a result of any of the aforementioned conditions. However you can reduce the appearance of these marks with the help of some home remedies. Tomatoes are considered to be very effective in reducing marks. Blend one tomato to get a thick paste. Apply a liberal quantity of the paste on the entire face. Leave the application on for about 10-15 minutes and then rinse it off with warm water. This should be done on a daily basis in order to get effective results.

Cucumber is another vegetable that can prove to be very effective in the treatment of dark patches or marks. Blend the slices of one cucumber and then squeeze the juice out of the blended pulp into a jar. Now keep this aside for an hour or two in the refrigerator. Once it has cooled, dip a cotton ball in the juice and apply it on the face. Let the application air dry, after which wash it off with cold water. Banana can also be used to treat marks. Mash one over ripe banana and apply the mashed pulp onto your face. After about 15-20 minutes, wash it off with cold water. Thee juice extracted from margosa leaves or mint leaves can also be applied on to these patches 2-3 times a day, to help lighten them considerably.
