Premature balding is also referred to as the premature thinning of hair, wherein the hair tends to become scanty in certain areas of the scalp. On an average we lose about 50-100 strands of hair per day, but anything above this is considered to be abnormal and unnatural. As you said that your hair appears to be thinning along the side of your face, the cause may be identified as a fungal infection. Such type of an infection on the scalp can damage the hair shaft, leading to a loss of one's hair. The fungus that causes this form of an infection is quite similar to the one that causes athletes foot. This condition requires medical attention as it can begin to get worse leading to severe bald patches on the scalp.
Tying or braiding you hair to tight can also cause damage to the delicate hair follicles. Avoid the use of elastic bands, hair bands or ribbons as this causes the hair to suffer from too much of friction. If you have the habit of twirling your hair, then that could also be a possible cause for hair loss. Furthermore do not comb your hair immediately after it has been washed, wait for it to dry and then brush it. Here are a few home remedies that you can try out, to prevent hair loss. Coconut milk is considered to be effective in treating hair loss. Simply massage 3-4 teaspoons of the milk into your scalp. It will help in nourishing the hair and will promote growth.
Coconut oil can also be used to treat this condition. Mix 2-3 tablespoons of the oil with a few drops of lime juice. Then gently massage this mixture into the roots of the hair for 15 minutes. Keep the application on for an hour and then rinse it off with warm water. This will help in strengthening the hair and will also keep the scalp clean. The use of onions has also been recommended for this condition. All you need to do is rub an onion on the affected area, till it turns red, once this has been done, take a teaspoon of honey and gently rub it on the area as well. This should be done twice a day, for a few weeks till you see positive results. A thin paste prepared from red gram or pigeon pea could also be applied to the affected area.
