Wrinkles appear when the skin begins to age. This occurs because the elasticity of the skin becomes diminished. Ageing can take place intrinsically, which is caused due to hereditary; or it can take place extrinsically, which takes place on account of environmental causes such as sun exposure. Intrinsic ageing takes place as part of the natural process of ageing. When collagen production decreases and elasticity reduces, the skin begins to wrinkle. The shedding of dead skin cells also takes place very slowly and new cells take a longer time to grow. Exposure to sunlight, without using protection, can cause various effects on the skin. Rough skin, wrinkles and loose skin are common consequences of overexposure to the UV radiation of the sun. The ageing that occurs due to the exposure to the sun is known as photo-aging. Facial movements that are repetitive cause fine wrinkles and lines on the skin. Smoking is also known to cause the skin to age faster, thereby resulting in wrinkles and dull looking skin.
If your skin has begun to appear old and wrinkled due to external factors, then protecting yourself from these factors could prevent further damage to the skin. It is important to wear sun screen before stepping out into the sun. You can also add extra protection by covering your body with long sleeved shorts and long trousers. Protect your face by wearing a scarf or a hat. The skin also become dry and wrinkled when it is not hydrated adequately. As such it is essential to consume plenty of water and liquids. Maintaining a proper skin care routine will also help to keep your skin glowing. Moisturize your skin regularly to prevent dryness. Ensure a high intake of vitamin C and E, as these promote the growth of cells and collagen. They also stimulate the production of natural oils which keep the skin lubricated and supple.
Olive oil is very beneficial for the skin and serves to moisturize the skin efficiently. You can apply the oil before going to bed and leave it on for the night. An effective pack for preventing wrinkled skin is made with an egg and gram flour. Only egg can also be applied directly to the skin. Another nourishing pack is made with papaya, pineapple and a few drops of potato juice. Vitamin E gel is also very effective in treating problem skin. Coconut oil can also be massaged into the skin at night. Another effective way to deal with old and wrinkled skin is to apply a paste of sugarcane juice and turmeric to the skin.
