Dry Skin Bumps Cures

The occurrence of these dry skin bumps is due to a skin disorder known as Keratosis pilaris. The disorder is harmless and is also known as ‘chicken skin.' It generally occurs on the upper and the back sides of the arms, the thighs, top areas of the legs, buttocks and the flanks, but never on the palms or the soles of the feet. It generally gets aggravated during the winter months or arid climates as the low level of moisture cause the skin to go dry and itchy. Keratosis pilaris looks like small white pauples that grow around a hair follicle and are generally the size of a grain(sand).they appear coarse and sandpaper like, but do not itch or cause excessive irritation.

Keratosis generally occurs due to excessive dry skin or due to hormonal imbalances. It is sometimes also caused when people are affected with asthma, hay fever or eczema.

Dry skin conditions also seem to aggravate the disease. The disorder can be treated using a variety of over the counter medications like; lotions, creams and ointments and should be applied after a shower and a number of times during the day in order to keep the affected area moist. You could also try pulse dye laser treatment, which temporarily helps in reducing the redness but does nothing to reduce the rough feeling when touched. A simple method is to use water mixed with petroleum jelly to try and flatten the bumps or pimples. Use a mild soap and avoid taking a long bath with very hot water as it dries the skin and aggravates the disorder.
