Dry Skin Problems Skin that has a parched, stretched appearance is suffering from low level of sebum and is thus rather sensitive. It appears dry and dehydrated unless moisturising creams and lotions are applied liberally after washing the skin. The main causes for dry skin are lack of lubrication of the skin by the skin's oil glands, genetic factors which contribute to the skin type as well as dietary factors, including low intake of water and essential vitamins. Exposure to the natural elements, i.e. the sun, wind and cold or even chemical products can lead to dryness of the skin. Dry skin demands gentle care, so avoid using hot water and harsh soaps if you are prone to dry skin. If your bath water is hard water, use a piece of alum to soften it before you bathe. Always apply a moisturiser or baby oil all over your body after you have washed as well as before sleeping to nourish the skin with additional oils. Apart from this you can prepare a mask with 1 egg, 1 teaspoon of honey, ½ teaspoon olive oil and a few drops of rose water and apply it on your face for a quick fix to your dry skin problems. If your skin has started cracking, especially on your hands and feet, you can apply Vitamin E oil or Aloe Vera gel to heal the skin. Above all, ensure that your diet is balanced and includes plenty of vegetables, fruits rich in Vitamin A and B and drink at least 6 to 8 glasses of water daily.
