What are the identifying signs of skin cancer?

Symptoms of Skin Cancer
Generally, there are three common forms of skin cancer such as Basal cell Carcinoma, Squamous Cell Carcinoma and Melanoma. These cancers arise from different types of skin cells and so they have their own distinctive characteristics. Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma are clubbed together as nonmelanoma cancers. They are more common and less dangerous.
Basal Cell Carcinoma is the most common type of skin cancer and it is also the least dangerous as it grows very slowly and almost never spreads. The first sign of Basal Cell Skin Cancer is a smooth waxy bump that appears on the upper part of the body namely the face, ears, neck, chest or back. Often there are visible blood vessels within the tumour that causes crusting or bleeding.
The first symptoms of Squamous Cell Skin Cancer are nodules or lesions that if left untreated, can grow into a larger mass. The nodules are red and firm while the lesions are flat and scaly with a thickened or crusted surface.
Melanomas are generally brown or black lesions that can appear on the palms of the hands or the fingertips as well as the soles of the feel or the toes. They could also appear as white or dark blue spots on the limbs r the trunk.
If there are changes in the appearance (colour, size or shape) of an existing mole make sure that you see a doctor immediately.
