The color of our hair is due to the action of melanocytes that are present in each hair follicle. Over the course of time the performance levels level of the melanocytes present in each follicle begins to decline and leads to the formation of grey hair. Premature graying or canities is not a very uncommon disorder in young children and maybe due to hereditary factors but the most common cause is a vitamin deficiency (especially vitamin B 12).Another cause of premature graying is anemia and can be determined by having your child take a blood test that is capable of detecting current anemia. Vogt - koyanagi syndrome occurs in some children after a bout of viral illness. In its attempts to fight off this virus the body makes 'antibodies' that also end up killing melanocytes and hence causes premature graying. Make sure to consult your local doctor to find out if the graying is due to a vitamin deficiency or the syndrome mentioned above. You can use the Indian gooseberry as a treatment option. It is a well known remedy, as it increases the melanocyte levels present in the follicles. Cut the gooseberry fruit into pieces and dry it out, preferably in the shade. Once dried, boil the pieces in coconut oil until they disintegrates and gives the oil a darkish appearance. Store the oil in a jar and massage your daughter's scalp every night with the oil in order to stop further premature graying.

Dandruff is nothing but the excessive shedding of dead skin cells due to an overproduction of skin cells by the scalp. A normally harmless condition, your child may however require further examination by a doctor if her symptoms do not subside after a treatment period of about two weeks. However, this is rarely the case and treatment is very simple. You will need to first purchase a good quality anti- dandruff shampoo. You must use a quality product because the medicine in the shampoo needs to be effective enough to penetrate the scalp and reduce the level of cell shedding. Use the shampoo as often as possible but do not overdo it. The second step is to check if the outbreak of dandruff is related to her being subject to stress, as dandruff outbreaks have been linked to stress in both adults and children. The third step is to have your child eat a healthy well rounded diet. Lastly reduce the amount of cosmetic hair products that she may be using, as dandruff can also caused by the negative side effects harsh chemicals have on the scalp due to overuse.
