Treat Skin Lesions by Skin Cancer
Treatment for skin cancer lesions varies according to the type of cancer as well as the size, location and depth of the lesion. You may have to go in for surgery or you may be able to destroy the abnormal cells with topical medications. You will have to take the advice of your physician and I would suggest that you get a second opinion before you decide to follow a course of treatment.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery is probably the most commonly used method of treatment. Although this treatment is extremely effective, it can cause extensive scarring. It is generally used in cases of lesions that are recurrent. If your lesion has spread to the underlying cartilage or bone or if it is larger than 2 cm, this would probably be your best option. If your lesion is in a place where the cancer is unlikely to recur, you can go in for Curettage and Electrodesiccation. This is only possible if the lesion is small (less than 2 cm). If for some medical reason, surgery is not an option, you may have to undergo Radiation therapy which is generally used for small or medium sized basal and squamous cell carcinoma lesions. There are also Topical Medicated creams and solutions that destroy the lesion without the risk of scarring.
