Skin Cancer Foundation
A number of places are conducting research work in the area of skin cancer prevention and treatment. Various research centers are exploring different and novel ways of treatment for skin cancer, especially melanoma. Although non-melanoma type of skin cancer, which includes basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma are more common, it is melanoma, which is showing the greatest number of new cases. This increase in figures is especially of concern because Melanoma type of skin cancer is the most fatal and can lead to death of the person.
Various places that have good resources and additional sources of information include the Skin Cancer Foundation. It was founded in the late 1970's and continues to support worldwide education and research into prevention and treatment of skin cancer. The Skin Cancer Foundation, headquartered in New York also provides up-to-date information through various activities and the publication of free newsletters such as the Sun and Skin News, which provides simple, non-technical, current information on the issues related to skin cancer. The American Academy of Dermatology is another organization made up of doctors that disseminates useful and current news on prevention, detection, and treatment of skin cancer. They provide free literature and referral services that direct individuals to desired services and information.
