Phases of Skin Cancer

To begin with, there are various types of skin cancer and they all have different stages. Generically speaking, however, there is only a basic two step process of stages. One is detection of the disease and the second is cure. However, timelines may differ on both these procedures. If you have managed to detect your disease in the very beginning of its ascent in your body, it will be called detection at stage one. This will be a stage whereby the cancer has just developed, is fairly new and young and can be treated with a close to 99 per cent chance of success. This is true of all the three types of cancers, which may not be similar in nature otherwise. These would include basal cell skin cancer, squamous cell skin cancer and melanoma.

The first two types of cancer, basal cell and squamous, can be treated even if they have been in your body for a long period of time since for most part, they do not spread easily. But if ignored and allowed to penetrate below the skin surface to the bones and muscles, they may also be fatal. However, this would happen only after a long period of neglect, and then it can be said that your cancer has reached its final stage. Melanoma, on the other hands, spreads rampantly and rapidly and sometimes, its progress can be traced in weeks. It goes from stage one to a mid-stage when it has not yet spread so far and wide that it cannot be controlled, to the final stage, wherein it proves fatal.
