Skin Cancer Stats
Is it skin cancer is a common problem? How much risk is there I am looking for some stats so if I should be careful.

Skin Cancer Statistics
Skin cancer is the commonest of all kinds of cancers that affects human beings. Percentages reveal that it is the fastest growing type of cancer, mostly due to people's ignorance of the effects of the sun's rays. The last collection of statistics was collected in the year 2007 and it shows that there are less than three million documented cases of skin cancer worldwide. Out of the total figure of detected cancers, which run closer to nine million, one in every three cases if cancer is some form of skin cancer.
The risk of skin cancer depends upon the kind of skin cancer you have. If you have basal cell skin cancer or squamous cell skin cancer, the risk of it spreading and you losing your life are quite minimal when compared to melanoma, which is a fast spreading and highly malignant form of cancer. As far as the risk is concerned, since the number one reason for skin cancer is unprotected exposure of the skin to the harmful rays of the sun, it is very important that you provide minimal protection to your skin when going out in the sun. It is useful to know that people with darker skin are less prone to being affected by sun burn and sun tans, and therefore are less susceptible to developing skin cancer than people who have lighter skin. The absence of melanin, the pigment that darkens human skin and hair, makes fair skinned people more prone to being adversely affected by the sun's rays.
