Is there any increase in risk for American in skin cancer?

Skin Cancer among Americans
Skin cancer develops more easily in people who have light, fair skin, with a tendency to develop freckles. This kind of skin lacks in melanin, the pigment that adds dark color to skin and hair. It is this deficiency that makes the skin more prone to being affected by the harmful rays of the sun. On the contrary, if you have dark skin, you are less likely to contract the disease because due to pigmentation, your skin will be able to withstand more of the sun's rays without getting excessively burnt or affected.
Statistics reveal that one in every six patients with skin cancer is of American origin. This means that the American population accounts for nearly one sixth of the total recorded and documented cases of skin cancer in the world. Since the number is so high, this clearly indicates that Americans are at a far higher risk for developing skin cancer.
However, the preventive measure you can take in the face of this increased risk is to make certain that you avoid the direct rays of the sun hitting your exposed skin as much as possible. It is always better to use a sun screen or sun block while going out in the sun, as this will be of maximum help in preventing you from contractive the disease.
