Types of Common Skin Cancer

The different types of skin cancer are basal cell skin cancer, squamous cell skin cancer and melanoma. Of these three, the one that is most rampant in human beings is basal cell skin cancer. This kind of cancer commonly occurs due to over exposure of poorly protected skin to the direct rays of the sun. So the commonest place where one can look for signs of this type of cancer are the face, ears, hands, feet and neck. It most often appears as a small lump beneath the skin that has a smoothened and soft texture to touch. Sometimes, this is also known as a pearly texture. Although this is quite rare, this cancer may also manifest as a small scar that is firm and painless to the touch. It is important for you to know that it is extremely rare for any kind of scar or mark associated with cancer to pain too much. Pain does not form part of the symptoms of the disease.

The most common way to contracting any type of skin cancer is exposure to the sun without the skin being protected by a sun screen or sun block. The sun's rays contain ultra violet radiation, which is generally extremely harmful to the skin, and these are considered to be the root of the problem.
