Mohs Surgery for Skin Cancer
My mother has skin cancer, and I am looking at treatment options. Can you tell me something about Mohs surgery?

Skin Cancer Surgery
Mohs surgery was created by Dr. Fredrick Mohs. This is a surgery that is an effective cure for the more common type of cancer of the skin. This surgery is controlled microscopically and has been known to be effective in at least 99% of the cases treated. The Mohs surgery, due to being micro graphically controlled, allows for a great deal of precision in the removal of the tissues that are cancerous. This precision helps to ensure that the healthy tissues are left untouched.
Mohs surgery is performed in four steps of which the first is removing the tissue. Once the tissue has been removed surgically it is examined by the surgeons to look for any cells that exhibit cancer. If the sample indicates the presence of cancer then the surgeon removes the affected tissue. Once this is done the surgeon once again removes a section of the skin and tests it to look for cancer. If the sample shows evidence of cancer then the surgeon removes the affected area till the patient is rid of the cancerous sections.
Although the success rate for the Mohs surgery is very high, you should consult your doctor regarding the suitability of this procedure for your mother.
