There are plenty of inexpensive treatments easily available in your home and kitchen that can be used to take care of dry and rough hair. You would have to follow simple treatments on a regular basis to improve the texture of your hair. The simplest treatment is to apply oil to your hair at least thrice a week. You can apply coconut, lavender, olive or almond oil to your hair and scalp and leave it on overnight. This can be washed off with a shampoo that is specially formulated for dry hair. It is advisable to use a specific shampoo as opposed to a regular one.

If you can follow this routine regularly, you will notice a marked difference in the quality and texture of your hair. Basically, dry hair needs extra conditioning and nutrition to improve. This will not only make the texture of your hair smooth and soft, it will also take care of the 'roughness'. You will not have to do anything additional for that. You can deep condition your hair once a month with henna. This is an effective and excellent treatment to improve the texture of your hair. Make a hair pack of henna with half a cup of henna powder, one egg and a tablespoon of olive oil. Apply this meticulously to the roots and strands of your hair. You may need help to do this, as it is not always possible to apply it by yourself. The mixture should be thick and not runny for good results. You can wash this off with your usual shampoo.

Once a week, you can also apply milk to your hair. You can soak your hair in plain whole milk. This will go a long way towards adding to the smoothness of your hair. Likewise, you can also use a milk based shampoo. This will work very well towards nourishing your hair. Another treatment you can use once a week or once in two weeks is to squeeze out fresh coconut milk and apply this to the roots of your hair. This is the richest kind of nourishment you can provide to under conditioned hair. In order to prevent your hair from drying out further, you should follow some regular rules. For instance, avoid using blow dryers and curling irons. These will make your hair worse. Try not to leave it open any more than is necessary. Open hair has a tendency to frizz out and become drier.
