Dark circles are commonly caused due to extreme over usage of the eyes and not adequate rest to go with it. Sometimes, they are also caused due to tension or sleeplessness. Age can also be a major factor that can cause dark circles. Sometimes, a prolonged or protracted illness can also cause dark circles to make an appearance. Of all these causes, it is up to you to decide which one applies to your case. Once you have, you can take the first step towards removing them by eliminating the cause altogether. But in any case, it is important to know that the best way to get rid of dark circles is to get more than adequate sleep. This will be the one stop solution that will help the maximum.

If you have had a prolonged or protracted illness, and are recovering from it, then all you have to do is get enough rest and be patient. The dark circles will gradually fade away on their own. Make it a point to sleep well and adequately. The same applied if you are suffering from the problem of eye strain, which can occur due to several reasons. The commonest cause of eye strain is staring at a screen or a monitor without blinking for long periods of time. This problem typically affects those who work with a computer or watch too many movies. In this case, dark circles will just be a cosmetic factor - the problem will aggravate into weakened eye sight if not checked appropriately. Reading in poorly lit areas, or in vehicles, or while lying down can also cause eye strain, so you must be careful with that as well.

You can also try to remove the darkness under your eyes by employing a few methods at home. One of the most effective ways of reducing dark circles is to apply tincture of iodine to them. This takes time, but it is known to be highly effective. Applying aloe vera gel to your dark circles will also help in eliminating them. If you can find the gel freshly squeezed out of leaves, this is the best way to use it. If not, even store bought will work well enough. The best part about this is that you can use this as frequently as you like and it will not even be visible. You can also apply a mixture of fresh milk in which a few strands of saffron have been soaked overnight.
