Before you begin to employ any kind of treatment for scars left behind by acne, you should know that these kinds of scars are not always rid of easily. While they can be lightened considerably, there is no guarantee that they can be totally removed. This is particularly true if the scars are more than a year old. The rule is that the older the scar, the more tough it is to treat it properly and remove it altogether with non invasive methods.
Of course, there are always surgical methods that can be employed to remove them altogether. Surgery is a permanent as well as relatively expensive option, however. And it may not always be painless, depending upon which method you choose to employ. It is important that you scope out the various kinds of surgical methods available in the market before you make a decision of any kind. You must also try to interview people who have actually undergone surgery before deciding it is what you want as well. Any doctor's office will be happy to provide you with such sample cases.
If you do not wish to go for an invasive method like surgery, then you can try out some simple methods to lighten your scars at home. One of the best ones is application of freshly squeezed aloe vera gel. If you can get fresh leaves and split them to remove the gel, this is your best bet. If not, an over the counter product works just as well. Make sure you wash your face properly before applying this gel, as it will not work too well otherwise. Another method you can employ is to use diluted hydrogen peroxide to your scars. The dilution should be one part of hydrogen peroxide to 10 parts of water. However, remember not to go out in the sun after applying this to your face, or else your dark marks may worsen. It is also inadvisable to use this remedy for more than once a month, since prolonged usage of hydrogen peroxide can make your skin rough and over sensitive. You should also try to use a granular exfoliating agent to exfoliate your skin regularly. Buy one that is specifically formulated fro sensitive skin for best results. You can also make your own by making a grainy mix of coarsely ground walnuts and yogurt. This can be used to scrub your face about thrice a week.
