Good nutrition is not only important for the body but also equally important for healthy hair. There is a list of vitamins important for the health of hair, but these will show results only when you follow a healthy diet rich in these vitamins on regular basis for more than 2-3 months. If you have any health concerns then check with you specialist before starting any vitamin program.

Vitamins for Hair

  • Vitamin A - This fat soluble antioxidant helps produce healthy sebum in the scalp. Food sources for this vitamin includes fish liver oil, milk, cheese, meat, eggs, broccoli, spinach, carrots, apricots, cabbage, papaya and peaches.
  • Vitamin C - This water soluble antioxidant helps to maintain both hair and skin health. Food sources for this vitamin include all the citrus fruits, capsicum, strawberry, kiwi, tomato, pineapple, cantaloupe, dark green leafy vegetables and potato.
  • Vitamin E - This antioxidant enhances the blood circulation in the scalp. Food sources for this vitamin include wheat germ oil, cold pressed vegetable oils, soybeans, dried beans, raw seeds and nuts and green vegetables.
  • Biotin - This vitamin helps produce keratin. Biotin may also help prevent graying of hair and hair loss. Food sources of this vitamin include whole grains, egg yolk, Brewer's yeast, liver, milk and rice.
  • Inositol - This vitamin helps to keep the hair follicles healthy at the cellular level. Food sources of inositol includes while grains, citrus fruits, liver and Brewer's yeast.
  • Vitamin B3 or Niacin - This vitamin promotes circulation in the scalp. Food sources for niacin include fish, chicken, meat, turkey, wheat germ and Brewer's yeast.
  • Vitamin B5 or Pantothenic acid - This vitamin prevents hair loss and graying of hair. Food sources for this vitamin include egg yolks, organ meat, whole grain cereals and Brewer's yeast.
  • Vitamin B6 - This vitamin helps to create melanin which gives hair its natural color, and also helps prevent hair loss. Food sources include whole grain cereals, organ meat, Brewer's yeast, vegetables and egg yolk.
  • Vitamin B12 - This vitamin helps prevent hair loss. Food sources include fish, chicken, eggs and milk.
