Causes and Treatment for Itchy Skin Rash

Skin rash is usually accompanied by itching and can lead to bumps, redness, cracks, blotches, swelling and blisters on skin. Itchy skin rash may be caused by bacterial, fungal or viral infections. Some skin diseases like psoriasis, Pityriasis Rosea, poison ivy, chicken pox, scabies, eczema, hives, ringworm and athlete's foot can give rise to itchy skin rash. Thick, silvery scales on the red base with a distinct border are produced in psoriasis. A rash caused by scabies is bumpy, red and usually located on armpits, between fingers and on the wrists. Eczema causes itchy skin rash which is closely associated with allergies. It is generally associated with abnormalities in epidermis making the skin drier and more sensitive to some common chemicals. Some common symptoms of itchy skin rash are dryness, redness, skin edema, itching, crusting blistering, flaking, oozing, bleeding, or cracking. There may be also patches of discolored skin. Genetics, diet, lifestyle, reactions to allergens, drug sensitivity and exposure to toxic chemical or substances are the prominent factors responsible for developing the itchy skin rash; this diagnosis is done on the basis of symptoms. Keep the skin hydrated and moisturized is the main treatment option for itchy skin rashes. You can use soaps, creams, moisturizing agents like emollients like aqueous creams, etc. Ointments that contain sulfur, coal tar and in some cases steroids can be effectively used for the treatment of itchy skin rash.
