Advice on Blotchy Skin Rash
Blotchy skin rash is caused by two conditions including contact dermatitis and seborrheic dermatitis. It features changes in texture and color of the skin. Contact dermatitis may be due to allergic reaction to chemicals in latex, elastic and rubber products, dyes and other chemicals in clothes, soaps, cosmetics and detergents and poison ivy or sumac. Seborrheic dermatitis appears in the form of blotchy skin rash around eyelids, eyebrows, nose, mouth, trunk and behind the ears. Stress, age, oily skin, weather extremes, fatigue, alcohol-based lotions and infrequent shampooing are the risk factors for this condition. Other common causes of blotchy skin rash are eczema, psoriasis, impetigo, shingles in adults and measles, rubella, fifth disease, chicken pox, scarlet fever and roseola in children. Many medical conditions including lupus erythematosus, Kawasaki disease and juvenile rheumatoid arthritis are also supposed to be associated with blotchy skin rash. These conditions can give rise to scaly, itchy, red blotchy skin rashes. They can be treated with some simple remedies. Use of hydrocortisone cream (1%) can soothe the skin rashes. Keep the affected area hydrated. Use of gentle cleansers is recommended instead of soap. Exposure of affected area to the air is essential for early healing.
