Alternative Treatment for Acne Scars
Acne is a skin condition, which affects 80% of the people in their teen years and 5% of the people in their adult years. While many people recover from acne without any permanent effect some people are left with disfiguring acne scars. After an active acne lesion has healed, it can leave a red or hyper pigmented mark on the skin. This is not actually a scar, but a post inflammatory change. The redness or the hyper pigmentation is seen when the skin under goes it's healing and remodeling process which takes at least 6-12 months. If no more acne lesions develop during that period the skin can recover normally. Any color change or skin defect present even after one year is considered to be a scar. The best way to prevent post inflammatory changes is to prevent acne lesions from occurring. This can be done by understanding the factors that cause acne and using the appropriate treatments for different types of acne. There are some topical skin care products and medications which may help in the removal of mild acne scars. However most of the acne scars are treated by a combination of surgerical procedures and skin resurfacing. Acne scar removal includes procedures like, dermabrasion, chemical peels, collagen injections, laser resurfacing, punch grafts and autologous fat transfer.
