Advice on Activated Charcoal
Activated charcoal is charcoal that has been treated by oxygen to open up the millions of tiny pores between the carbon atoms. One teaspoon of activated charcoal covers a surface area of more than 10,000 square feet. This unique characteristic allows it to adsorb large amounts of chemicals or poisons. When a chemical pass next to the carbon surface, it attaches to it by chemical attraction and gets trapped. It is fine, black, odorless and tasteless powder. It is made out of nutshells, wood, coconut shells and even animal bones. It has often been used since ancient times to cure various ailments like poisoning. It has played an important role in combating diseases like poisoning, diarrhea, gases, etc. application of this powder mixed with water on the skin helps to alleviate pain and itching from bites and stings. It has also been used to clear skin wounds and adsorb waste materials from the gastrointestinal tracts. The activated charcoal can also be used to treat the above conditions in animals too. The charcoal has shown good results in the treatment of aging in rats and the scientists think it may work on humans too but it is yet to be proved.
