Natural Treatment for Scalp Infection in Babies

This is quite an odd occurrence indicating that your child is suffering a   problem that could be a fungal infection of the scalp, an autoimmune disease or a mineral and vitamin deficiency. Autoimmune diseases are usually the most worrisome as this is not caused by a virus or bacteria but rather by the body’s own immune system destroying healthy cells. An autoimmune disease that manifests itself in hair loss is a possible case of alopecia areata. This condition is rarely seen in babies, making this a possibly unique case. However, this is not something to worry about as your baby’s hair loss will reverse and things will come back to normal soon. This does not mean that the condition might not recur so you should be prepared for the possibility that it may recur; however, when it does your child will probably be old enough to have the drugs that suppress the immune system enough to stop the damage.

Fungal infections of the scalp are perhaps the more likely cause of a case of hair loss in children especially if it is accompanied by the occurrence of black dots on the surface of the scalp. This condition is called tinea capitis and is also called the ringworm of the scalp. This is a condition that usually affects children but rarely adults indicating that the reason for its occurrence is a deficient immune system that is still coming to strength. The treatment for this condition is a simple topical use of an antifungal medication, which has to be prescribed by the doctor. You could also start by using some dandruff shampoo on your child for the topical attack against the fungus. From a natural remedy perspective, you should apply some diluted tea tree oil to your child’s scalp, as this will destroy all the fungi. Another possible reason for this occurring is a vitamin deficiency that manifests itself in hair loss in children and in adults. Biotin is part of the family of vitamin B and is classified as vitamin B7.
Biotin deficiencies are usually manifest in the hair loss in other parts of the body as well like the eyelashes and eyebrows. However, since you child is as young as it is, this would not be noticeable. The remedy for this condition is to have an increased dietary intake of biotin. If your child is breastfeeding then this should come from breast milk but assuming then that you are deficient yourself, start taking biotin supplements for immediate effect. Since your baby is only nine months old, it is best that you discuss her condition with a doctor before you start any treatment.
