Chemical hair straightening is a process by which fuzzy, unmanageable and curly hair is straightened permanently. It was a procedure that was first developed in Japan. When you chemically straighten hair it is important to take care of it so as to maintain the effects of the procedure and to avoid your hair turning brittle and stiff due to negligence. Chemically straightened hair tends to be a lot more porous and has a tendency to accumulate a dulling residue from shampoo and other hair care products. This makes straightened hair more maintenance prone but, the procedure is relatively simple. Relaxed hair tends to break very easily so the first step is to use a good quality detangling conditioning product in combination with a wide pick hair brush in order to easily detangle your wet hair. When detangling your hair start from the hair ends, slowly working your way up towards the roots. Deep conditioning every once or twice a week is important for chemically straightened hair. The process repairs the damage caused to the hair by replacing some amounts of the oil and protein that the chemicals tend to strip off during the straightening procedure. Thus using a good quality deep conditioner will do wonders for the overall strength and appearance of your hair.
If your hair does not respond positively to a deep conditioning treatment then you may have to consider using moisture reconstruction treatment. The chemicals used in the chemical hair straightening process tend to eat away at the hair and cause damage to the cuticle, thus it is imperative that you regularly use the above mentioned solutions in order keep your hair healthy, straight and strong. As far as possible reduce the number of times you use a blow dryer or heated styling tools. If necessary, use the minimum setting and first apply a proper leave in conditioner. The overuse of chemical relaxers has a considerable negative effect on the hair. The most common mistake is not stopping at the re-growth stage and using relaxing touch ups at home as well. This practice is alright only if done in moderation. There are a number of different relaxer home kits that you can use, but when doing so make sure not to overlap the chemicals on to the hair that is already straightened. The mistake of applying the relaxer in this way leads to broken and damaged hair.
