Frizzy hair control using natural hair mask and homemade conditioners
Yes, a mixture of mashed banana and oil is indeed good for frizzy hair. This is what is known as a hair mask, and it conditions your hair while also protecting it from further damage. Oil is of course an excellent conditioner, and is the closest in composition to our natural oil, sebum. Some research has shown that coconut oil is the most effective – it penetrates the hair shaft better than any other oil, and provides more protection against protein loss too. It is therefore advisable to use coconut oil if possible; the other option is olive oil, which is also supposed to be great for the hair. Bananas contain a variety of nutrients, and adding a banana to the mix thus not only conditions the hair further, but also provides important nutrients directly to the hair shaft and is important for dry scalp treatments.
Of course, this is not the only hair mask possible, nor is it the only treatment for frizzy hair. For good hair care, you can enrich this hair mask by adding other ingredients too – typically, people add a bit of avocado and a bit of yogurt. The banana must of course be reduced proportionately, or else you will end up with a mixture that is just too thick and messy to be used. Mayonnaise is also an excellent hair mask and conditioner. Many people recommend mixing mayonnaise and olive oil; however, mayonnaise usually already contains a substantial amount of oil, and therefore adding more oil is unlikely to give you any additional benefit. However, you can try both – mayonnaise and oil, and mayonnaise by itself – and see which works better on your hair.
After applying this hair conditioner, you need to let them stay for at least half an hour, and then wash them off with your regular shampoo. Ensure that your shampoo suits your hair type – very often, it is the shampoo that causes, or at least adds to, the frizziness of curly hair. Other hair care tips after shampooing and rinsing your hair is to use a final rinse of honey and water. For this, you can put half a teaspoon of honey in a large mug of water. The honey needs to be diluted considerably, or it will only leave your hair sticky. If you find this happening, you should dilute the honey further. Finally, remember that these treatments will not change your hair type – they will make your hair more manageable, but if you have naturally frizzy hair, it will stay frizzy.
