I had my hair dyed and now I have a rash on my head. Is there anything to treat this? I do take benadryl but it itches a lot by the hair line and there is a rash.
Dry, itchy scalp or a rash on the head can be a result of extremely dry skin, allergies to strong, chemical based hair products or the use of certain hair colors and dyes. Sometimes certain medical conditions, such as eczema can also lead to itchy rash on the scalp. In order to prevent and treat such rashes on the head, you should first identify the cause so that you can get adequate treatment. Apart from that, it is also important to keep your scalp clean by washing it twice a week using a mild, herbal shampoo with a glycerin base. You can look for shampoos which use green tea, Aloe Vera or honey since these are beneficial for the scalp and the hair. Avoid using harsh chemical products which could irritate the skin and cause any kind of rashes on the scalp. Make sure you rinse the shampoo out completely because any residue shampoo that is left to build up on the scalp can lead to itching and rash. You can also resort to several home remedies to treat the itchy rash.
Gently massage your scalp with a mixture of coconut oil and lemon juice around an hour before you wash your hair. This will help to reduce the rash and itching. You can also rub some baking soda into your scalp and leave it on for 15 to 20 minutes before you shampoo your hair. Alternately you can mix a few spoons of baking soda, along with a few drops of honey and water. Massage your scalp gently but thoroughly with this paste and leave it on for at least 20 minutes. A mixture of witch hazel and water in the proportion of 1:2 can be similarly applied to the scalp and left to soak into the scalp. You can also use vinegar or apple cider vinegar for the same purpose. To prepare the mixture, use vinegar and water in the proportion of 1:1 and apply it to your scalp using a cotton ball. You can wash your hair with a mild shampoo after around 15 to 20 minutes. Aloe Vera has healing properties and is beneficial for many skin problems. You can either apply pure Aloe Vera juice on the scalp directly or mix Aloe Vera juice, cod liver oil, Vitamin E oil, wheat germ oil and lemon juice and apply this mixture to your scalp about 15 to 20 minutes before you wash your hair. In addition to all this, you should reduce your salt intake until the rash on the scalp has completely cleared since salt will aggravate the problem.
