Hair reduction treatments – Electrolysis and Laser hair removal
Hair removal techniques such as waxing are not meant for permanent hair removal. If you do not want hair to grow back, you will need to undergo more advanced treatments, such as laser hair removal or electrolysis. These treatments are of course also more expensive than waxing, and there is also a greater risk of side effects.
Laser hair removal essentially works by transmitting intense light into a strand of hair, thus heating up and damaging the follicle. The damaged follicle is then unable to grow hair again. The reason why only the follicle is affected by this treatment, rather than all the tissues in the treated area being damaged is that the treatment targets only dark matter – only dark hair receives and is affected by the light. This of course has a down side – only dark hair can be removed, so the treatment is not viable for light haired people. In spite of this, there is always the risk of burning the skin in the treated area. This may eventually result in inflammation, scarring, or spots of hypopigmentation. The chances of this happening are of course much lower if you visit a reliable, experienced professional who uses good quality equipment, but it is important to be aware of the risks. You should also note that this process takes quite long – it can take up to 12 sessions over the course of a year or more before the treatment is completed. Another thing to remember is that laser hair removal is not really considered a “permanent hair removal” treatment, but a “permanent hair reduction” treatment. Some hair in the treated area may continue to grow in spite of undergoing several sessions.
The only treatment that has proven to truly remove facial hair or other unwanted hair permanently is electrolysis. This involves treating each follicle individually – a fine metal probe is inserted into each follicle without piercing the skin, and an electric charge is passed through it, damaging the follicle. There are three different methods of electrolysis, and they are all considered to be equally effective. This treatment is also slow – it takes at least a year for treatment to be completed, and considerably more if you want to get rid of a lot of hair.
Using these hair tips and hair care treatments to get rid of body hair is probably not viable. You can probably remove the more troublesome hair permanently, and use waxing to remove the other hair on a regular basis. There is no particular waxing product that you need to use – simply ensure that the product is reputed and reliable, or get the procedure done at a salon.
