Causes and diagnosis of numerous tiny hyperpigmented patches & speckles all over body

I am African, lived in Africa. Have numerous very tiny hyperpigmented patches or speckles all over my body as a child. I have removed it using anti fungal. What is it and what can I do?

You have not mentioned exactly which treatments you have tried apart from anti fungal medication. There are numerous possible causes of the patches and spots that you have described. Fungal infections are only one cause of hyperpigmentation. Other causes include Vitiligo, eczema, and a number of conditions that are not very well understood, but seem to be related to genetic factors and exposure to sunlight.

Vitiligo is usually incurable, but mostly harmless. However, it seems unlikely that you have Vitiligo, since you have only said that the patches are hyperpigmented and not white. Vitiligo involves a complete loss of pigment; the affected skin would not just be lighter than normal, it would be completely white. It also tends to spread, at least for a while, but your patches and spots seem to have stayed more or less the same right from the time you were a child. Similarly, many other diseases that tend to cause white spots are progressive diseases. In all these years, the white spots would have spread to the other parts of your body, and you would probably have developed other, rather serious symptoms too. Since you have not mentioned any other symptoms, it seems unlikely that any of these diseases is at work here.

A physical examination by a skin specialist is the only way to identify the problem and treat it. You seem to have already visited several doctors and tried plenty of treatments, so the thought of yet another doctor is probably quite wearisome. However, if you are able to find an experienced, reputed doctor who specializes in unusual skin problems, it will probably be worth the time, trouble, and expense.

It is not possible for us to suggest any real treatment to you without actually looking at the spots, but we can suggest a few precautions and home remedies. One thing you need to do is reduce your exposure to sunlight. Hyper pigmentation is sometimes aggravated, if not caused, by excessive exposure to sunlight. Even if the sunlight is not causing or contributing to the development of the spots, it can make them more prominent by tanning the surrounding, normal skin. Hygiene is something you are probably already careful about, but you should still try to be a little stricter about it. Keep your skin clean and dry at all times. Some home remedies that you can try are tea tree oil and a solution of vinegar and water (in equal parts). Be careful with the tea tree oil however, as it is quite strong.
