My son has small itchy red bumps on the tops of his feet. Please advice!
The first thing that you should do is to ensure that your son does not scratch the red itchy bumps on his feet till their exact cause is ascertained. Scratching it might cause the bumps to break and to spread the infection further. The itchy red bumps on feet may be caused by some sort of an allergic reaction. You should examine your son’s shoes. Are they comfortable? If they are too tight, then they could cause eruptions on feet. You should ensure that his shoes are comfortable. Ensure that he uses only socks made of natural fibers since very often synthetic fibers can cause a reaction and result in the appearance of red bumps.
Bad hygiene can also be responsible for the appearance of these red bumps which are itchy. You should instruct your son to wash his feet when he comes home from being outside. This refreshes them and reduces chances of any kind of an infection. As far as possible allow your son to remain bare foot in the house. This will give the skin on his feet the opportunity to breathe and reduce the chances of any bumps appearing on his skin. Your son should also make it a practice to immerse his feet in a tub of lukewarm water at least twice a day.. Add a pinch of salt to this, to make it more effective.
You have not mentioned if the red bumps seem to be growing in size. If they are getting bigger, then you should consult a doctor at the earliest. Other symptoms to take note of and act upon immediately are oozing of any liquid or the appearance of pus in the boils. You can use Aloe Vera Gel on these red bumps. This is readily available in the market and can be applied at bedtime and left on overnight. If you can find an Aloe Vera plant, then you can use the gel that you extract from the thick leaves, to bring down the boils and reduce the itching.
In addition to these external remedies you should also ensure that you son eats healthy food. This could be related to his food and personal hygiene too. Cut down his intake of junk food and instead feed him plenty of fruits and vegetables. Keep him away from aerated drinks and give him healthy fruit juices instead. Encourage him to take up some regular physical exercise to keep him healthy and fit and insist that he gets adequate sleep every night.
