Scars from acne, sores and other skin ailments are a common problem and no body likes to have such unsightly marks on the body. There are several simple home remedies to lighten scars and remove scars. However there has been no definitive research result for this method and this should be used more as a continued skin care ritual. Using onion juice on the affected areas has found to have an effective result in smoothening and lightening scars over a period of 2 months. The anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties of onion slow down the production of collagen which causes the scar. Another good treatment for lightening scars is regular application of honey which also has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Adding other scar lightening products like Aloe Vera, Gotu Kola, Vitamin C and Zinc makes the treatment more effective and faster. Though these methods have been used for centuries to treat scars from all kinds of injuries and skin ailments, they are not always effective and take a long time to show results.
Apart from this, there are many products available in the market, which gradually lighten the scars over a period of time. Creams containing Alpha Hydroxy Acids help to exfoliate the skin and can be used to lighten the scar over a period of time. There are also some products in the market which use onion extract and these are excellent for lightening and removing the scars. You can apply silicone based sheets for scars on the affected areas for 12 hours a day for 8 weeks. You should use a new sheet after 3 to 4 days. This is said to get rid of the scars. However, if this also does not help, then your scars might be permanent, in which case, you should consult a dermatologist for adequate scar removing treatment. Over-the-counter ointments which have Bacitracin Zinc, Neomycin Sulfate, and Polymyxin B Sulfate and antibiotics combat any skin infection and also reduce the possibility of scars, though they do not promise to reduce existing scars.
