Homemade remedies for fair skin complexion
Your skin seems already rather fair – if you have what is often called a “wheatish” complexion, it is unlikely that you can lighten your skin further. Skin color is ultimately determined by your genes, and there is of course no way to change your genes. Skin contains special pigment producing cells called melanocytes, and genes determine the amount of pigment, known as melanin, that is produced by these cells. The more pigment your skin contains, the darker it is. In your case, your skin does not seem to contain much melanin, which is why you are relatively fair. To some extent, your skin may have gotten tanned as a result of frequent exposure to sunlight. As you probably already know, exposure to sunlight causes the skin to produce more melanin. The skin thus becomes darker than its natural color, in a process known as tanning. Tanning is not permanent, and if you reduce your exposure to sunlight, your tan will gradually disappear. It may take a few months, but eventually your skin will certainly return to its natural color. However, do not expect your skin to get any lighter than this, especially within two months. Rather than chasing an unattainable and possibly unhealthy ideal of white skin, you should pay more attention to the health of your skin and your body in general. When it comes to physical attractiveness, skin color is not even in second place. Facial features, skin complexion, personality, and numerous other factors play a much more important role. No doubt there are people who place a premium on fair skin, ignoring other attributes, but it is not advisable to adopt their standards of beauty. Concentrate on a healthy diet, along with regular cleansing, exfoliation, and moisturization of your skin instead. This will make your skin more beautiful than any skin lightening procedures, many of which will damage your skin.
If you are still intent on lightening your skin, you can try applying a mixture of honey and lemon juice on your skin daily. Sandalwood powder and turmeric powder are also good for the skin, besides supposedly being able to lighten skin color, and you can add a pinch of each to the previous mixture. Potato is also supposed to lighten skin, and you can squeeze the juice out of a potato and apply it on your face once a day. If these remedies do not work, you can consult a skin specialist for more aggressive measures. However, note that most medical skin lightening treatments, while they are more effective than home remedies, are quite harmful.
