How to control and reduce eczema and oily scalp

Oily scalp is usually the result of over secretion of the sebaceous or oil producing glands of the body. Frequent shampooing and maintaining a clean scalp are general hygiene remedies for preventing skin infections from emerging on your scalp. If you are suffering from eczema, the result is that your scalp has already become prone to scalp related infection. There is not much cause to worry, as this skin affliction is curable. But you have to be systematic and regular with the remedies to completely cure it. Eczema is a type of dermatitis or in other words an inflammation of the topmost layer of the skin or epidermis. Dermatitis infections are often treated with mild doses of corticosteroids that come with their own range of side effects. You must know that corticosteroids are not the cure, but only effectively control and suppress the symptoms. The symptoms range from redness, swelling, itching and dryness, crusting, flaking, blistering, cracking and, in severe cases, bleeding. If you are suffering from these symptoms, the chances are that you could be suffering from eczema, but the safest bet is to get your scalp or skin quickly checked by the doctor. If the diagnosis has been confirmed as eczema, only then follow the remedies as suggested.

Coconut oil has excellent moisturizing properties. You can also take one tbs. of camphor and 1 tbs. of sandalwood paste and mix the two. Apply the mix over the affected portions and keep it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with cold water and do not apply any soap on it. Repeat this application at least twice a day. Oil build up on your scalp can be minimized by application of yogurt mixed with crushed fenugreek seeds. For this, you have to soak approximately two-tbs. of the seeds overnight. Crush them into paste the next morning. Mix it with ¼ cup of yogurt that has been exposed for three days. Apply this mix on your scalp and leave it on for 30 minutes and wash off with cold water. Washing your hair with green gram powder mixed with a little yogurt again has proved to be effective in controlling eczema. This application has to be diligently followed twice a week for best results.

Certain skin care tips and don’ts for eczema- avoid any kind of soap, detergent on the affected portion till it is fully cured. Wash your hair twice a week and use a mild conditioner immediately after shampooing. Vitamin B6 deficiency also causes eczema, so plenty of bananas, beans, yeast, chili peppers, and eggs have to be a part of your regular diet.
