Blepharoplasty

As you grow older, the skin of your eyelids stretches, while the muscles weaken.

Extra fat also accumulates above the eyelids and under it. Because of this, your upper eyelids and eyebrows will droop, and dark circles will appear under your eyes. When this happens to you, you will appear older and stressed.

If you have droopy eyelids and you want to find a remedy for this, you can opt for blepharoplasty.

Blepharoplasty is a surgery procedure, wherein extra eye tissue is removed. Specifically, the procedure enhances the baggy upper eyelids, removes extra skin on the lower part of your eyelids and gets rid of eye bags or dark eye circles. This is usually performed as a cosmetic surgery procedure, and has the following types:

  • Surgery procedure for the lower eyelids – enhances the eye bags, which are puffy and dark. This also lessens the wrinkles around the eyes.
  • Surgery for double eyelids- enhances the upper eyelids of a person. Most of the people who go through with this type are those who belong to the eastern and southeastern part of Asia.
  • Transconjunctival type – the fat of the lower eyelid is removed. This is done by making an incision on the eyelid's back part.

When you want to improve your droopy eyelids, you have to consult with a specialist so that you will know if blepharoplasty is ideal for you. With this consultation, you can talk with your doctor matters, which are of concern with the procedure. The both of you will talk about your recurring health problems; then he will conduct a physical examination to test your eyesight and the production of tears. Your eyes are also photographed so that he can use this for assessment. When you are finally certain of your decision, he will inform you all you need to know about the procedure.

Prior to your surgery, you have to avoid two things: specific medications and sun exposure. You should not take in medicines like, ibuprofen or aspirin within 2 weeks, prior or after surgery. Before you go through surgery and 2 – 3 months after it, you have to keep away from direct sunlight. Sun exposure may result to a lasting irregular skin discoloration.

After you go through the procedure of the surgery, your specialist may advise you not to do the following:

  • Stressful activities
  • Lifting objects which weigh above 9 kilograms
  • Swimming
  • Bending from the waist
  • Jerky neck movements
