Hyperpigmentation laser treatment
Hyperpigmentation laser treatment has become an increasingly popular and commonly used method of hyperpigmentation removal.
Hyperpigmentation removal treatments are employed for the eradication of darkened areas of skin that could be the result of hormones, sun exposure, or even due to medications and skin type. Hyperpigmentation scars or legions could be attributed to melasma, or even pregnancy and hormonal changes or even due to freckles.

What is hyperpigmentation laser treatment?

This method of treatment is also commonly referred to as laser resurfacing. It has a very wide application and is also used to treat a variety of other skin conditions such as facial wrinkles, age spots or other scars. The actual removal of hyperpigmentation scars is done with laser peels. What these hyperpigmentation laser treatments do is that they evaporate or remove the first few layers of damage/pigmented skin. Sometimes it may even have to go deeper. The purpose of this removal of the upper layers of skin is to get to or reveal the fresh and even toned skin beneath. In this type of treatment an intense beam of light is focused on the area of concern. There are certain risks and some patients can suffer excessive hyperpigmentation after the treatment. For this reason you may have to use hydroquinone or Kojic acid prior to the treatment.
The actual treatment or hyperpigmentation laser resurfacing is in most cases administered under a local anesthesia or even with a sedative. This means that you will not be unconscious during the procedure but extremely drugged and drowsy. Mild to moderate pain is not uncommon after the treatment, and new skin will begin to appear within a few days. Laser resurfacing generally requires a series of treatments and not a single session. |
