Toning for Skin

Due to the fast paced lives that most of us lead, anxiety, stress, pollution, an improper diet and inadequate exercise are all commonplace.

Our skin is negatively affected by these habits and so it is necessary to spend time and effort to keep skin clean and healthy.  In addition to cleansing the skin, it is very important to keep it well nourished as this will help to remain smooth and blemish free.

Natural skin toners:

The needs of the skin can be provided through a balanced diet and natural skin toners that will enhance the beauty of the skin. There is an abundance of natural products that will tone the skin. Most of the effective skin toners are found in your kitchen.

Vegetables and fruits such as potato, tomato, gourd, cucumber, apple, oranges, papaya and strawberries are excellent skin toners. Pulp and use these as a face mask or rub pieces of them on your skin to provide your skin with additional nutrients. It is also important to eat them in ample amounts to keep the body and skin healthy.

Lemon mixed with honey is an excellent natural facial toner. You can combine gram flour and almond powder and mix it with lemon juice, yogurt or rose water to prepare a natural skin cream. The oils of avocado, olive, jojoba, coconut and almond oil are very helpful in toning the skin. They are rich in vitamins and nutrients and are effective as natural skin moisturizers. They can be blended with a few drops of essential oils of lavender, peppermint or rosemary to obtain a fragrant natural skin oil.

Steam inhalation with holy basil, thyme, or margosa leaves will open clogged pores and refresh the skin. These leaves have anti-septic, anti-bacterial and anti-oxidant properties which are beneficial to the skin. Varieties of thyme like orange or lemon or its essential oils can be used as a natural skin toner.

To prepare your own natural skin care toner various recipes are available. Mix half a tablespoon of alum with 50 gm of rose water and 100 gm of glycerin and store in a cool place. This is useful for normal skin. For dry skin, boil two handfuls of mint leaves in half a cup of water. Mix two drops of the extract with distilled water and half a teaspoon of alum and use a cotton ball to apply it to your face.

Boil one cored apple in a pan till it becomes soft and strain the liquid. Add apple cider vinegar and witch hazel to this liquid and mix it well. Add a few drops of essential oil of lavender. Allow it to blend well and store in the refrigerator. This can be used as a natural face toner.
