Causes, Risk Factors and Natural Cures for Varicose Eczema

Most people are likely to develop varicose veins as they get older, from adulthood to at least till the age of 60.

Some medical experts are of the belief that varicose veins is a genetic disorder, as a number of studies have shown striking observations of the varicose veins condition found in the same family among a number of members of the same family. However, there is not enough evidence to prove that genetic abnormalities are a cause of varicose veins.

Varicose veins are also commonly observed in either very tall or obese individuals. But then again, medical analysts are of the opinion that there is no correlation between height and varicose veins, while there is inconsistency in the evidence about obesity and varicose veins.

Treatment for Varicose Veins : Prevent Varicose Veins

Varicose veins however are common among pregnant women, in women who have borne children. Women who have had more than two children also stand a risk of developing varicose veins. This occurs because of the pressure of the womb on the veins or hormonal influence on the vein walls. The exact cause for varicose veins however is still not found. There are however two schools of thought that are expounded by experts as causes of varicose veins - Descending valvular incompetence and Weakening of the vein wall.

  • Descending valvular incompetence - when the valve located at the top of a vein halts work or is inconsistent, it causes pressure that distends the section of vein below it. The pressure then stretches the wall of the vein causing it to become varicose. The domino effect reaches the valves below the non-functional valve above thus causing a kind of a chain reaction.
  • Weakening of the vein wall - Individuals who develop varicose veins are thought to possess irregular levels of collagen and elastin that supports strength to the vein wall. Hence it can be possible that weakening of the vein wall due to collagen and elastin abnormalities may case varicose veins. This theory is usually applied to those with 'primary varicose veins.'
Some people however go on to develop ‘secondary varicose veins' which takes place due to deep vein thrombosis that blocks the deep veins. Other causes of secondary varicose veins include tumors in the pelvis region that may be pressing on the leg veins, chronic venous insufficiency or a rare form of congenital issue that affects the development of the arteries and veins.
