Blisters

During the summer season, it is always common for some people to get fever blisters or what are also known as cold sores.  This is because hot temperature due to sunlight exposure is one of the common conditions that activate the herpes simplex virus that lies dormant in the system of people who are affected by these blisters.  Other conditions include trauma, stress, hormonal changes and fever.  The activation of the virus result to the formation of the fever blisters.

These fever blisters or cold sores are terms commonly used for the blisters, which are usually filled with fluid, that show on an afflicted person's lips.  The other sites where these lesions also appear on are in the mouth, especially on the gums as well as on the hard palate or the mouth's roof.  It is rare though for these sores to appear on the hard palate.  Because these lesions tend to reappear over time, you should always expect that they usually appear on the spot where they were the last time.

These blisters usually cause a degree of pain to the affected person.  In most cases, the pain comes days before the lesions appear on the lips or gums.  Once they appear though, they rupture in just a span of a few hours, after which they will become crusted.  You should be aware that these sores are quite infectious and can spread to the other sensitive parts of your body as well as affect other people who are closest to you.  Risk for infection is greatest from the moment the lesions rupture until they are healed fully.    The virus causing the sore on your lips or gums could even spread to your genitals or your eyes.

The spread of these cold sores could be prevented if you are careful though.  All you have to is to always wash your hands properly before you touch any other parts of your body especially your genitals or eyes or other people, after you have just handled your sores.  Also be sure to avoid contact with the mucous present in the lesions.  Lastly, neither pick at the crusted sore nor pinch or squeeze it to get it to rupture before its time because this could result to you being able to touch the infectious fluid that is inside.

There is, however, no known cure yet for fever blisters.  It could somehow be treated through the use of an ointment, which you could use to coat the lesions.  Acting as a protective coating, these ointments normally contain an agent against viruses like acyclovir.  For the best kind of treatment for you, you should contact a doctor who would be able to give you a prescription.
